◎ What I Want as an Adult ◎

May 26, 2025

Last week, I received a brush from Shozo Nakatani, a brush craftsman in Nara.
Apparently the owner of a certain piece went out of his way to order it.
I was very grateful for his thoughts and writing, and I was very happy.

When I was a child, I had a clear idea of what I wanted.
Visual, emotional, and tangible.
Toys you saw on TV, trends, things your friends had.
What I want is a whim, an envy, an impulse.

However,
When you are old enough, even if you are asked what you want,
I can’t think of an answer right away.
Instead, “what I want to do” emerges.
There are so many things I want to do too!

Many of the things that adults want to do are
My childhood dream,
What I gave up on,
There were things I couldn’t do.

The number one thing I want to do is
“Build your own house.”

Move your hands like a craftsman, steadily tapping.

When I was a child,
I made a “blueprint”
“If I take two years off from work, I’ll probably be able to build a house.”
That’s what I thought.

that’s why? !
What I want most right now is
[-Iwakura].

Find a huge rock and make it into a house that incorporates the signs of nature!

I’ve been thinking about this for a long time,
My “boring self” shows its face. a person who builds a house on his own
When I watch videos, I feel like I’ve done something even though I haven’t done anything.
This makes me feel like I studied just by buying a reference book.
It’s similar to my school days full of regrets.

That’s why Iwaza search.
To take just one step forward,
I’m writing it in my email newsletter.

What you want when you grow up is
A “style of life” that leaves no regrets in life.

What I want is “hints” and “realizations” about how to live.

What you “want” is
What kind of “way of life” does it lead to?

I hope your early summer is filled with a healthy and free breeze.
