Japanese art is heavily influenced by "Sho", an expression of black (brush)
The art that fascinated Van Gogh 「Ukiyoe」 is also from the "Stroke of the brush".
The fine strokeline of the pitch black trace lines astound the world.
That line is 「drawn」 by brush, carved from wooden plates 「created to last」 by carvers.
The wooden plates are individually carved by the colors they represent and stamped upon a single piece of paper together with this method.
This is similar to the layering function from the Photoshop we use in modern times.
Ukiyoe art has traditionally represented and morphed 3D forms into 2D but after 250 years, Sisyu has released Ukiyoe art back from the realm of 2D into 3D.
Calligraphers makes a new line of 「stroke」 from their brush while removing traces of lines from the art's background scenery.
That stroke dances and intertwines in the air in multiple layers. Thus, Ukiyoe is released from the shackles of its tradition.
